We can simply see his immaturity and he does not particularly care for the customers. Sammy attitude toward the three girls visiting the store reveal his 19 years old immaturity. Sammy started by describing first girl and then another in detail. He later concentrates on the most beautiful one who he called the leader – Queenie. He critiques them in his head as he watches them shop about the store. Like an immature young 19 years old boy, he analyzes them and described them one by one, but focused on Queenie. She was the queen, she did not look around, not this queen, she just walked straight on slowly, on these long white primadona legs †¦.. † But in the end, Sammy really reveal his immaturity when he relate the girls mind to â€Å"just a little buzz like bee in a glass jar†. Sammy attitudes toward the â€Å"AP† establishment as being rigid and policy organization, the policy that a bathing suit is not allow in the store especially if the shoulder is n ot covered. Sammy’s sees this AP policy as against the human constitution freedom. He believes that anybody should wear whatever they feel like wearing to anyplace. He forgets to realize that most establishments have their dress code. For example, some restaurant does not allow people to wear jeans pant to dinner. Sammy’s attitude toward the staff especially Mr. Lengel was not good at all. Mr. Lengel is a friend to Sammy’s parent and he sees Sammy as a young boy who needed to be nurture. When Mr. Lengel, the store manager told the girls that the policy of AP is to have one’s shoulder covered while shopping in the store. Sammy replies â€Å"policy is what the Kingpins want. What the others want is juvenile delinquency. † The others in this contest I believe it refer to himself. For Sammy to be a person of principle, he must realize that you must have a policy. They always say that a person of principle is a policy person. Sammy’s attitude toward Mr. Lengel and the comment he made revealed his immaturity in this stage of his life. Sammy decision to quit his cashier job at AP supermarket because of girls shows his immaturity. Sammy believes that he stand up for the rights of the girls that is the reason why he quit. If Sammy is a person of principle with common sense, he will think before he makes that decision. Sammy doesn’t think before he says â€Å"I quit† to Mr. Lengel. He let his emotion overcome him. Sammy just wants to show off to the girls, he says â€Å"I quit, to Mr. Lengel quickly enough for them to hear, hoping they’ll stop and watch me, their unsuspected hero†. Sammy does not arrive at this decision because it is against his principle. Sammy even agreed with Mr. Lengel that e doesn’t want to quit, but he says when you start the gesture you need to finish it. He imagines â€Å"how hard the world was going to be to me hereafter†. Sammy immature attitudes towards its customers, the staff, the girls and the â€Å"AP† and his decision to quit revealed his immaturity in this story. Sammy wants to impress those beautiful young girls that end up leavi ng him unemployed. Also, Sammy immature action has gained him nothing and cost him everything. The question of the matter is what does it matter? The term â€Å"race† came from racism itself. Since the sixteenth century, race and racial inequality has changed in multiple ways. For example, in 1904 the European powers began taking over southern Africa where the ethnic group Herrera’s resided. The Europeans began moving the Herrera’s to concentration camps to kill them, all for land. In the 1940’s Hitler wanted to form a new order of Nazi Germany. He did this by forcing the Jewish, African Americans, and any other race that was not European or at the least resembled European decent to concentration camps. Just like the Herrera’s the majority of those placed in these camps were killed. However, Hitler did not do this for power or land; he did this to form a perfect land. He wanted everyone to be what he considered perfect, white, blonde, and had blue eyes. Jumping over to America, slavery of the African American race and sometimes the Indian race, were shipped to America in the 16th century and up until the 19th century, these people were forced to work. Unlike the European power, America’s goal of this group was not to exterminate them, but to use them as work. The African Americans had many rules and restrictions that prevented them from living a normal and equal life as the whites. We also forbid them from displaying for sale at the market or from carrying to private houses for sale of any commodity, was on rule for the slaves that was established under Code Noir. Slavery was made illegal after the American Civil war in the 1860’s. However, The climax of the history of racism came in the twentieth century. This is due to those of different ethnic backgrounds trying to become civilized in society. Crime rates shot up and police brutality rose with aim to those whose race was of African descent. Those races had a nearly impossible time getting jobs which meant they had to live in poor communities. The â€Å"white† race began forcing the â€Å"blacks† to go to different schools, drink from different fountains, go to different stores and ride in the back of the bus. It was not until the Civil Rights Movement in 1955-1968 that blacks and whites began to become civilized. As one can see, racism has manifested itself into world history playing a key role in major wars fought, protests, and mass exterminations. Even though there are no more concentration camps, and slavery has been made illegal, racism is still present today in the 21st century. Today, racism is not as harsh and brutal as it was in the past; it has become more or less a humor. On comedy shows there is often a â€Å"token† character. Typically this character is African American and is made fun of by the other characters. These jokes are found to be funny and laughed at. The reality is that the jokes made are racist. A common form of humor is a meme. A meme is a typographic joke. Some are of a black man where it is joking about committing a crime; some are of an Asian man who is joking about either the shape of his eyes, or how Asians are said to be smarter than the average person. These memes are found all over the internet and are simply laughed at by all races. The biggest racial inequality argument happens to be racial profiling by police. Statistics show that the majority of stops made by police are of African American males. There have been several reports of police harassing and being unfair to these individuals. However, when an individual of European descent is stopped, they are given a warning if it is their first time and treated fairly. Little wonder that black parents, regardless of class, routinely drill their children in how to act when stopped by the police, something few white parents ever think about. Despite the jokes and the racial profiling, American society fails to recognize racism today, even though it is clearly present. All in all, racial inequality has been a major issue since the 16th century. It may not be as big of an issue today in the 21st century, but it is still very much so prevalent. Racial inequality has come a long way since the 16th century, let alone the 20th century, so it is easy to see an assurance of equality in the future. In this paper I will compare and contrast the influence of heredity and hormones on human behavior. I will also include a discussion on the endocrine system, identification of hormones and the glands responsible for secreting them, and genetics, behavior genetics, and evolutionary psychology. The nervous system and the endocrine system work together in what is called a constant chemical conversation. The endocrine system helps to coordinate and integrate complex psychological reactions. The endocrine glands release chemical substances known as hormones, which are carried by the bloodstream throughout the body. Hormone functions are similar to neurotransmitters because they carry messages. There are two reasons why psychologists are interested in hormones. The first is because at certain stages of development in life, hormones organize the nervous system and body tissues. An example would be when a child reaches puberty and hormones cause the development of breasts in females and deeper voices in males. The second reason is because hormones activate behaviors such as aggressiveness, sexual ehavior, and the ability to concentrate. Hormones also can have a dramatic effect on moods and the ability to learn. The glands that regulate hormones are the endocrine glands and this includes the thyroid gland which produces the hormone thyroxin. Thyroxin regulates the body’s metabolism and determines how energetic, or how fat or thin a person will be. If this hormone gets out of balance, it can cause fatigue, insomnia, or the desire to sleep yet feeling constantly tired. The pineal gland secretes the hormone melatonin which helps to regulate sleep-wake 3 cycles and when disturbed can cause jet-lag. The pancreas secretes two hormones insulin and glucagon which work against each other to help keep blood-sugar at a balanced level. If there is not enough sugar in the blood and urine, it may lead to diabetes and if there is too much sugar it may lead to hypoglycemia. The pituitary gland produces the largest number of different hormones. It is also known as the â€Å"master gland† and is responsible for contractions during childbirth, a mother’s milk production, body growth and thirst. The gonads, which is the testes in males and ovaries in females produce the hormones androgens and estrogens. These hormones ave male and female characteristics such as increased aggressiveness and nesting behaviors. There are two adrenal glands which affects how the body reacts to stress. The hormones released are epinephrine and norepinephrine. Epinephrine makes the heart beat faster, stops digestion, and sends more sugar into the bloodstream. Norepinephrine raises blood pressure and is carried through the bloodstream where it triggers the release of an adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), which prolongs the response to stress. Genetics, according to Morris (2005), is the study of how living things pass on traits from one generation to the next. Genes can determine eye color, hair color, and many other physical traits. Many heredity traits are delayed until later in life such as male-pattern baldness. Behavior genetics study topics such as perception, learning and memory, personality, and psychological disorders from a genetic perspective. Their goal is to try and identify what genes contribute to such things as temperament and intelligence.
